mail.app imap corrupted messages

pretty new to mail.app, and mac in general. But I really like the interface!


However, I'm having an issue with IMAP and mail.


I have a rather large yahoo mail history, and I connected mail.app to it.


Every so often, I get a message which is supposed to have an attachment, but it doesn't. I know it has an attachment because the mail appears correctly on my iPhone, and on the web-based yahoo mail client.


As an experiment, I saved the raw message to a file from Mac mail, then using a client that properly saw the message, moved the message to another folder on the imap server, then re-synced Mac mail. The message now appears in the new folder correctly with attachments! I then saved the raw message into another file, and did a diff on the two.


Large swaths of the message are missing in the first version, including the mime header of the attachment. This quite easily explains why the message is corrupt.


So -- I'm not trusting mac mail any more, especially to transfer messages to other folders, which is disappointing since I really like the interface. Is this a problem that others have? All questions I searched were archived and on very much older versions of OSX. It seems like a chronic problem that others have had.


Should I contact Apple? The macbook pro is less than I year old, so I should be able to bring it into my local apple store for free, but I'm expecting not much help there, especially if this is a bug in mail.app...

Yes you can't find any proper information about this problem but it exists for sure. The main problem is that it's not affect every mac.


The problem description is: when you move the message on an IMAP server it lost its header but the message is hurtless on the server. Without the mail header it can't display attachments but you can see the base64 encoded content of the message. (maybe not in all cases)


On my MBA (mid 2011, OSX 10.8.2) I can't reproduce this error (I have many IMAP servers configured) and I never see this on my previous machines as well. (I didn't have any MBP) In a business of one of my friends there is 3 MBP (early 2011) he brought it in one. They have this problem on all computers on the same mail servers that I use as well. The problem altough is not connected to specific OSX or Mail.app version. (it was existed from early times till now) It looks like it's more connected to MBP's...


This bug is the Mail app's boogieman! 😉


In some of the complaints I found earlier there was some people who tried apple live support and Apple's replied that is a problem of "ANY" server that you use. Sadly no oen has this problem on apple's servers. (MobileMe /from earlier/, iCloud)


Anyway I will fire up a bug report but it's an annoying thing that I can't reproduce the bug. I would ask you to do the same and fire up a complaint. (more complaints of the same error more chance to a fix) http://www.apple.com/feedback

I'm experiencing the same issues.

I'm on a Mac, running 10.8.2. The problem only started when I upgraded my machine to 10.8.2.

Some of the emails I receive show a paperclip indicating an attachment, but there is no attachment in the email, instead I get the message "Missing Plug-in". I know there's suppose be an attachment because the person sending me the email is referencing the attachment in their dialogue.


This needs to be fix ASAP, its causing a huge problem for my business.
