Credit Card Security Code "Invalid"?

Has anyone experienced this error message? I've tried updating my credit card information, old one expired, and every time I enter the new security code is says to enter a valid code. I've tried multiple times and always get the same message.

Any suggestions to fix if you've experienced this?

Thanks!!!

Hi I am experiencing the exact same problem. I'm looking right at the security code and reviewed the information like 20 times and it says invalid security code. I looked at the links, but I already know this information. I've entered this exact information for online purchases and there is no issue.

carsonsmiracle, this is frustrating indeed, after working on this for days I have found a solution although it may not be suitable for everyone.

  • Last night I logged into itunes from my computer,
  • signed in,
  • went to my account tried to enter credit card information "again" of course it resulted in the same outcome "invalid security" code.
  • I figured I would try a different approach since I had tried several different cards both VISA and Mastercard with no success.
  • I actually chose paypal as my payment method this time, at that point it had me login to paypal enter credit card information to be used only for itune purchases, (I entered the same credit card I had loaded in my itunes account), confirmed the card

Miraculously it actually worked, I was able to update my apps and purchase a new app with no problems. I fully understand it is just an extra step in the process, but it is using the same method of payment, just essentially adding a middleman. I hope this helped, I'm interested in hearing from Apple on this issue because it is clearly an iOS issue not a card or bank issue.

I downloaded ios 6 and ever since I cannot download or update any of my apps even free ones, it keeps telling me invalid security code. I have always used the same credit card I retuned card number and security code, and I tried two other cards no matter what card I use or if the correct information is entered I keep getting the same error message "invalid security code" this is so frustrating. Looks like I won't be purchasing anything for awhile. The links were not useful for me either.

I updated tu ios6 on my iPad but not my iPhone and I keep getting the "invalid security code" error message on both of them!! Like mgerickson01, I have tried multiple cards and still got the same error msg for all of them. What aggrevates me is that one of the cards it is rejecting is a card that I have previously used w/out any problem!!

You have to update your billing information on the Apple Web Site, not in itunes or from you application store. The issue is that Apple iTunes keeps adding the additional 4 digit zip code and it will reject your card security id.

So if your zip code is 40221, you hit done on the billing info page and you look and it reads 40221-2323. This is where it's rejects your security code. I just went to the web site and finally it worked.

Go here to update your billing info:

HOW TO FIX "INVALID SECURITY CODE" PROBLEM:

Since apple's "customer support" consists of a whole bunch of ******** derelicts who blame you or your credit card company for this message, I had to take it upon myself to figure out a way around the problem. All you have to do is change your billing information in iTunes from your credit card to PayPal.

I was getting this same ridiculous "invalid security code" message when I knew I had entered it correctly!

It's funny, because PayPal recognized it as a valid account and security code, and now all my apps finally work again.

  1. Open iTunes
  2. Go to the Store
  3. On the right, click on "Account"
  4. Next to "Payment Type", click "Edit"
  5. Click the PayPal logo and either enter your existing PayPal account info or create a new one (as I did)

I'm not a fan of PayPal, therefore I never had one. I created one really quickly and even used the same account that mysteriously stopped working. (AND WITH NO PROBLEMS... THANKS, APPLE)

I really hope this helps anyone with this same problem as it is really frustrating when somebody **cough cough apple** tells you that you're doing something wrong when you know you're not, and takes no liability whatsoever when the error is on their behalf.

Happy Apping.... For now
