Does the iCloud hold all my data, photos, music etc?

I've got a new iPhone 4 coming tomorrow. I currently have an iPhone 3 and an iPad. I also have an old style iPod but can't connect that to the cloud.

I want to make sure that all my informaiton is backed up on the Cloud particularly my photos. How to I check that they are? When I log on to the cloud I can't see them, I can't see my videos or anything?

Do I have to sync with a PC becuase I don't really have one. I can borrow one but it isn't ideal and if I should sync with a PC can I somehow put the information on a detatchable disk so that I can get back to it when I need it?

Please can you help?

Thanks

iPhone 4, iOS 5.1.1

iCloud is primarily used to sync files between devices and to make iOS device backups. However, when it comes to pictures,

You should be importing all pics taken with the iphone to a computer regularly as you would with any digital camera. This is covered in the manual.

iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer

iCloud backups work on the Camera Roll, but many users have lost pictures when doing a restore - never trust all your photos to iCloud, always sync them and videos to a computer.

BTW, videos are not saved in backups on iCloud. And, for a backup, you can't view individual files, a backup is a mass of files stored in a container. You can't access them unles you perform a restore of the entire backup.

You can't connect an external disk to an iOS device to save files. (Well there are wifi devices that allow you to save files to, but that's another story.)
