Windows reset to root directory

My system seems to hiccup about once per hour. When it does, all the Finder windows I had open reset to the root directory. Anyone seen this? Any way to fix it?

Dual G5, Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Hi, Welcome to Apple Discussions.

What do you mean, "hiccup?
Navigate to ~(yourhome)/library/logs/crashreporter/ finder.crash.log and post the last couple of entries (by time).

In the meantime try navigating to ~(yourhome)/library/preferences and trash these two files:
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist

Then log out and back in again. Or restart.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

See if that helps.
