Has anybody started experiencing sudden freezing and the spinning medicine ball since upgrading ? I have to do a hard reset every time this happens which is severl times a day now since upgrading .

So many hard drives failing directly after the ML update ? Come on ! Only for few this might really be true.
That's what the tech said , I would hope it's very rare . I was told by the Apple Care tech's over the phone that quite a few people are experiencing this issue , they're aware and engineers are working on an update . Next time there is a new OS , I will wait a month before I install so the bugs are fixed .
My hard drive is brand new and was installed by the Apple Store just 2 months ago, after the previous one died.
So I doubt this one is dying now. Also, when it freezes, there is no hard drive noise - it is not repeatedly trying to access the same part of the disk, as when there is a hard drive failure, and no unusual noise.
This is software related, I'm sure.
It's not quite urgent enough for me to go through the hassle of taking the machine to the Apple Store (since mine in an iMac), since it's only crashing 3-4 times a week, but I sure hope Apple release an update soon because this *****.

Software-related is probably right. Check your downloaded third-party software for updates. It might also be useful to google that software´s name together with "mountain lion" and "crash".
Cozar: I tried that. I did a complete reinstall and it crashed before I could even so much as reinstall a single bit of software so I do not believe that this is a third party software issue.
It sure does !! Mine was crashing about every 90 minutes , it was progressively getting worse , as of last night , it would last under 10 minutes before it froze . It does sound similar to mine , I had no noise either . One thing I was noticing was that when I had the system freeze , it would happen when my Tweetdeck App was updating and showing the update window on top of the Chrome browser . Could have been completely coincidental . I could still move the cursor but I couldn't do anything at all .
You checked third-party software, ok. Try this then (just did this in another thread):
Often there´s software incompatibility involved, You can try this in Terminal (Application>Utilities):
Copy and paste this line (don´t type) into the command line and press enter:
kextstat | grep -v com.apple
Copy the resulting list and paste it in this thread.
This is most assuredly another Nvidia problem. My Macbook had a very similiar problem back in Lion and was only fixed after a patch after 10.7.2. I'm trying now to make the notebook ONLY use the build in graphics and not the Nvidia but this is an awful solution as I cannot use my exterinal monitor.

I've done clean installation of ML not upgrade.
Well , so much for hoping my Apple Store reinstall of ML fixed my problems . It's freezing just like it was before they did it today .
After looking into my freezing and corruption problems I think it maybe the NVIDIA 8600M GT graphics card in my mid-2007 MBP as discussed in http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377 I've seen the corruption and flickering during the grey boot screen as well which makes me think it isn't related to the upgrade to Mountain Lion. I don't know if the free repair still applies though ... :/
I think there are different issues here.
The 'symptoms' are: System freezers, switching between programmes not possible, keyboard doesn't respond, touch pad allows the cursor to move but nothing can be clicked on. If video or audio is playing, it continues to play.
No strange hard drive noises, no blurred graphics or streaking of graphics. If you're having those issues it doesn't sound like what we're talking about here.
I don't believe it's 3rd party software because I'm not running any when it happens, only Apple. (Safari, Mail, iTunes, Pages etc).
Here are my symptoms:
1. I can see strange artifacts inside Mail application. Usually hyperlinks in email messages are replaced with parts of menu bar (wifi icon, etc...). This could be bug in Mail application because I cannot find connection with freezing.
2. When freezing occurs I have normal black cursor which I can move, but clicking, gestures, keyboard are not responding. But it seems that everything works in the background. Music, email, notifications, ... everything is working except GUI.
3. After some time cursor turns into spinning rainbow and stays like that. I can move it also but no interactions possible.
4. My console is filled with messages from my previous post.
I don't know how to reproduce this but it seems more windows you have opened more chances of freezing you have.
