Well, having participated in this thread about 10 pages ago, I'm back from my 3 weeks away and my machine crashed on downloading 10.8.1.  So I restarted, continued the download, installed it - and used the machine for the afternoon.  A couple of times during the afternoon, I got the spinning beachball, but I was able to Force Quit and it responded to me.  So I wondered if perhaps at least that much had been fixed in the update; that it doesn't spread system-wide...

Then it crashed.  This time it happened much more slowly, beginning with Address Book.  Then Pages.  Then, as I struggled to fire up Console to see what was happening, it spread everywhere and I had to restart.

This is such BS.  My machine is essentially unusable and to go through every individual suggestion here will take ages...

Josie , if you can go back and find sub updates to this threat since I started it , you can find what I was able to do in order to correct the freezing .  I hope that you find it helpful .  If I can be of any help to you I certainly will .

Thanks.  Well, I'm running Mail, Safari, iTunes, Contacts, Pages, Evernote, and 1Password.

I am most suspicious of 1Password and Evernote, since they're the only 2 not-Apple applications.  But I don't want to lose my notes in Evernotes and I really can't lose my passwords in 1Password, since it makes them up for me and I've no idea what they are.  Maybe I can start with the 1Password Safari plug-in.

I have downloaded AppCleaner and spent a satisfying 30 mins uninstalling things I don't even recognise or remember and deleting them.

I am tempted to try the beta 10.8.2, but worried that will create more problems than it fixes, being a beta...

I went to Apple support and found a ML OS update and installed it, but it did not solve anything at all. I think my computer is getting slower all the time and I am getting very fustrated with it.

That 10.8.2 beta is very tempting...

Go on Keith, I dare you.  If it works for just one more person, I'll do it too!!!

I've just deleted all my cookies in Safari, besides having deleted all unused apps with AppCleaner.  If it happens again, I will delete 1Password Safari plug in.  If it still happens, I'm going to do 10.8.2...

I just tried to download the 10.8.2 from the provided link, but I get the impression that the link is some kind of scam to get us to pay extra for the downloading service. Therefore, I guess I will have to suffer until whenever???

I'm also having serious issues with ML. My 2010 Macbook Air freezes to halt using Chrome, Firefox and Safari and the only solution is to force the power off. Not really the new OS experience I was expecting. The computer feels much slower in general in ML than it was with Lion. I really wouldn't want to spend a day reverting back to Lion, but if Apple doesn't provide a solution soon, I might have to.

My MacBook Pro (mid 2009) keeps freezing and freezing under Mountain Lion 10.8.1. The whois Screen Gets scrambled and the only Thing that can be done is a Hard Reset by shutting Down. Had no Issues under Lion. Thinkin of going back to it. 6 years using Mac and Never had Issues until now. This seems to be a Major Bug.

I have not had any crashes since I last wrote here 24 hrs ago - after I used AppCleaner 2 to remove all old apps and p-lists (especially old Adobe and Flash stuff) - I trashed everything I hadn't opened for 3+ years - and since I trashed all cookies in Safari, emptied the trash, then restarted and repaired permissions.

I will keep you updated as until I've had a week with no crashes, I'm not getting excited...

I am not sure the word Freezing is what I would use for what is happening for me, the word I would use is more like Stalling for every app that I use. It would take about 2-3 minutes before I can get anything to work. It's a major bug allright.

Now my really old Window's computer is starting to look so much better than the iMac which is a lot newer, sad but true.

I hope Apple people are doing something NOW to fix this thing!

There is no way in the world that I am going to delete old apps, I paid BIG bucks for those things. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING!
