Deleting Admin from a used MacBook Pro

I just purchased this MacBook Pro 2011 revision from Ebay. Not all of the sellers information is deleted. Such as his and someone else's user name's. I would like to wipe this MacBook clean but I have no software disks. Can someone help me? Because the seller isn't responding to my request for help.

Thanks

MacBook Pro, iOS 5.1.1

You cannot do what you ask unless you have installer discs. What you can do is the following:

  • Open Users & Groups in System Preferences.
  • Create a new user account with admin status. Give it the username and password you prefer.
  • Log into this new account.
  • Open Users & Groups in System Preferences.
  • Click on the lock icon and enter your new admin password.
  • Select the account you want to remove.
  • Click on the Delete [-] button.
  • Select the last option but do not select the sub-option to Secure Erase.

  • Repeat above for any other accounts you want to remove, but do not remove the Guest account.

Then you need that password. Contact the seller for the information. Otherwise, you will need to purchase replacement discs unless it came with Lion pre-installed.

If you need to purchase Snow Leopard you can still purchase a copy from Apple's online store's telesales agents.[1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775.] Ask for a Sales Representative.

Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:

    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com

    Snow Leopard from eBay

After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.

If you need to purchase Lion call 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. Ask for a Sales Representative. They will check your Apple ID, and email you a code and instructions. The cost is $29.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download.

Then you can reinstall from scratch as follows:

Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch

If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.

    Boot to the Recovery HD:

Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.

    Erase the hard drive:

    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.

Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.

Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Or simply follow my first suggestion.
