Q: iPod Froze.  Now restored but there is no response to TOUCH SCREEN.

iPod 2nd Gen 8GB, froze.Restore to Back Up and Restore to Factory condition.  The same result.  iTunes recognizes it in both restores but the TOUCH SCREEN no longer responds. Slide to Unlock and Slide to Power Off - nothing happens.

If I press the Home Button twice then the player and volume control appear at the top of the screen below, what is the correct time and the correct date.

If I press the Reset Button and then the Home Button - and then release the Home Button.  The Screen flashes and it makes a Camera Shutter noise.  Which is interesting as it has never had a Camera Function like the later generations.

It is found by iTunes and I can restore it to a back up or to original factory setting, BUT touching the screen does NOTHING.

Many thanks for any help as the nearest Apple Shop is like 70 miles away

When restoring the iPod fails to resolve a problem that indicates a hardware problem. An appointment at the genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

For info, if you depress both the Power (upper right) and Home button at the same time with the iPod on the iPod will take a screen shot and store it the Saved Photos Album. It makes a camera shutter sound when you do that.
