Setting up wireless printer HP Deskjet 3070A e-All-In-One

Hi there,

I have recently purchased a new Macbook Pro and am trying to set up and install an HP Deskjet 3070A e-All-In-One printer/scanner etc.

I understand that my Mac system is too new to use the HP disc for installation so I downloaded necessary updates from HP website which all seemed to work well.

Printer is online, wireless is connected and test page from printer works however when the set-up on my Mac tells me I have to 'add' the printer in order to send print jobs to it, I get a message saying 'unable to communicate with printer at this time'. Makes no sense as both Mac and printer are both connected to same wireless network and printer comes up as an option to select via the set up on my Mac.

Any ideas where I have gone wrong? Is there a chance some kind of firewall is stopping the 2 devices 'talking'?

Advice HUGELY welcome

Thanks

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Be sure that the system is up to date in all its patches in Software Update. Apple put out a rather large HP drivers patch not too long ago. After installing it (I had ignored it, thinking I wouldn't ever need it), lo and behold I was able to effortlessly add an HP Color LaserJet 2550Ln I got my grubby hands on at work. Both via USB and network access. And that a rather old printer too, but is great for color prints.

On the printer, print out a configuration page to verify that all protocols are enabled so it will be able to talk unimpeded with the Mac. In the 2550, I had to whip up a Windows XP instance on VMWare Fusion, in order to install the HP Toolbox in order to be able to reconfigure and recover it from the sorry state the previous user had left it in. Could never find a Toolbox version that could run on MacOS X.
