Software update server cannot be contacted?

I am trying to update my ipod touch to the latest iOS and i know that the model is able to, however, every time i try i get an error message saying

'The iPod software update server cannot be contacted.'

I have seen other discussions that suggest turning off all firewalls, I have done this and it still doesn't work, my internet connection is strong too so i cant see what the problem is?

as i said i am 100% sure this ipod is able to get the update, as my sister has the same model and her update worked fine.

Any help?

i m having the same problem. Actually 1 month ago, it has been crashed out by a truck which passed over it and it's screen broke into pieces. i had taken it to the apple store but the refused to repair it and then i make it repaired from 3rd party. Everything is working good including wifi, bluetooth, app store everything but the main problem is that while updating my software from 4.1 to any newer one, it showing the error that "Iphone software update server can not be contacted".

Apple guys plz help...
