No PEF file thumbnails, is there a fix?

This seems to be a common complaint but with no solution. And it's really annoying! 😠

Since upgrading from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion, PEF RAW files no longer display a thumbnail image in Finder. I have tried deleting the Finder pref file but this hasn't helped.

PEF icons displayed fine in Snow Leopard but now they just show a generic PEF logo icon. I can use Quicklook or Adobe Bridge to view the files but this is not ideal.
