Notes app showing double entries.

Hi there,

My new notes app in Mountain Lion is showing double entries. 😕

User uploaded file

Note that there are two "iCloud" and no "On My Mac".

If i stop Notes sync with iCloud under System Preferences then one set of entries dissapears.

But then effectively nothing will be synced i presume.

What should i do? 😝

Thanks

Sid.

First, backup your notes as this will delete any existing notes...

Close the notes app

Open finder, from the menu select "Go", then "Go To Folder"

Folder is ~/Library/Containers/

delete the com.apple.Notes folder

And you're done!!!

When you reopen notes, it will recreate the deleted folder, but the duplication issue is fixed.

Did you look in System Preferences as I suggested? If you see iCloud listed twice, highlight one of them and prees the "-" button at the bottom.

In System Preferences, click on, "Mail, Contacts & Calendars," not, "iCloud."

Note: You also posted this in the Lion forum, and it's obvious that the Notes application in your picture is from Mountain Lion.

I have not upgraded to Mountian Lion and only have Lion and I am having the same problem. Sometimes it is just a single entry, but like just now there are two entries for every one. I have also checked in mail preferences on my computer and there is only one icloud, so please do not harrss me about checking them agian someone did to the the first poster, unless it is something different. Thank you.

I run Mountain Lion, and I have the same problem.

Under "Notes > Standard Account" I see "iCloud" twice, but just one ticked. When I go to "Notes > Accounts...", there is only one iCloud account, and no other account with notes syncing.

The entries are not really doubled - they are just displayed twice: whenever I change any of the entries, the other one changes, too (sometimes with a little time lag - so there is syncing involved, I guess).

And not everything is always synced. It drives me crazy, because the only device where I can now create notes safely, is my iPhone - very uncomfortable.

Any useful ideas?

Thanks.

I think I found a solution. Or at least it worked for me. 🙂

  1. Go to Note, then on the "Notes" menu click on "Accounts".
  2. On the "Mail Contact and Calendars" disable Notes syncing for your iCloud account.
  3. Close Note.
  4. Reopen Note. You should only see one iCloud account, maybe with a different description
  5. Reenable Syncing for Notes, then change the description of your Notes accounts.
  6. Close Note then reopen Notes.
  7. You'll see the new Description. Now you can restore the original description and the issue should be solved.

Hope this helps also for you.

Disabling sync worked for me. I unchecked Notes in the iCloud settings and it prompted me that all of my notes would be deleted. Then the iCloud prefs pane refreshed and my Notes was checked again (but I didn't do it). The Notes app now only shows one copy for each note and syncing works both ways (update on laptop and syncs to mobile device and vice versa). Great tip, thanks!
