Q: unlocking my iphone 4s, so I can use it in another country with different provider

hello there,

I am with T-mobile in UKdo & want to use my phone with different network provider in India as i am travelling there.

T-mobile promised me on 19 june 2012 that they will take anything between 10 working days to 28 working days to unlock my phone, on 26 july 2012 they emailed me saying they can't find my IMEI on apple's database & unlocking is not possible, even though I bought the phone from T-mobile themselves & it was an upgrade. Now i am stuck as i am finding it extremely hard to use this phone & my direct debit for contract is still on, as it's an two years contract.

please find below T-Mobiles two email communication to give you more insight on their ridiculous support system.

first email:

Thank you for your request for a subsidy pin to unlock your iPhone.

Some of the information I?ve received regarding your sub pin in unclear and I need further information from you. The IMEI you provided is showing as INVALID. Because this IMEI is not registered to your account, it may have been typed in error or not purchased directly from us. Unfortunately, we do not have codes for handsets bought from Carphone Warehouse, Phones4U, etc.

Thank you for contacting me about unlocking your phone.

Yours sincerely

Second Email:

Hi

I am currently looking into the issue we are having unlocking your iPhone.

Unfortunately, we are receiving an error message on the Apple System which does not allow us to unlock your device.

However, I can confirm the IMEI is valid and purchased from T-Mobile.

You can contact Apple directly to see if they can assist you. I will also continue to look into this for you to see if we can get this resolved.

I be really grateful if some one can help me getting through this nonsense & guide how to unlock my Iphone 4s, as it is no more than a toy right now.

You're not addressing Apple here, this is a user to user technical support forum.

As with every other cell phone invented since the dawn of time, only the carrier to whom it is locked can unlock it.

Contact the carrier it is locked to.  If they refuse to unlock it, that is their decision.

You could try calling Apple care in UK and ask them if

they will check the lock or otherwise status of your iPhone

    on their lock database

    (44) 0844 209 0611

However be aware  they are not obliged to do so and I suspect

    T-Mobile have screwed up somewhere
