After install of Mountain Lion, FCP stops responding for playing videos

After having installed Mountain Lion, FCP loads fine, but any of the videos in projects, or new ones, will not play. I can skim the sound, but not the video.

When I press play, after a few seconds, the beach ball appears, and in Finder it says "Not Responding", and need to force quit.

To tell the truth, I did run CleanMyMac after Mountain Lion install, and right after that, I got a new version on CleanMyMac, so I'm afraid it deleted stuff it shouldn't.

I de-installed FCP, downloaded it again, and re-installed it, but the same problem exists. I've read the support pages, removed the preferences and layout files, but sitll, no joy.

Any suggestions

Open one of the video files in the QUickTime player and report what it says in the movie inspector.

First of all, movies play fine in Quicktime...

I opened one, and the inspector says the location,

Format: H.264, 1920x 1,080 (1,888 x 1,062), AAC, 48000 hz , Stereo (L R)

FPS: 29.97

Data Size: 253,2 Mb

Data Rate: 19,34 Mbits/sec

Current Size: 1,888 x 1,062

The problem I see is the stupid AAC compression. Where did this come from? Not from camera import. Might try converting a piece to the same specs except with uncomrpessed 48k audio and see if that works.

Did you try repairing permissions and rebooting?

Funny, since nothing had changed on the video, and that was what it was before the upgrade.

I did reboot, but didn't change permissions. How is that done?

You repair permissions with the Disk Utility. It's not likely to effect this, but it's worth doing.

The material really should have been used in FCP as it is. I don't know what might have changed in the OS that might be causing this.

Ran Disk Utility, fixed permissions. There were a few, mostly java related, but still nothing. Still stops responding.

I guess maybe the only solution I have is to reinstall Mountain Lion, and not mess around with CleanMyMac software.....Bummer.

Nope, a re-install of Mountain Lion did not solve the problem either. Still hangs. Becoming quite worried....

Any suggestions???

Try optimizing the media. That won't help with the audio, but it may work better. You could also try creating proxies.

Issue is that I was able to see any video imported or made directly in FCP. I have several projects in progress, and would need to remake everyone again....

I noticed that when I play a video, the beach ball comes up, but after a few minutes, the progress bar of the video itself comes to the end, and I have control over FCP again, but without the video. Audio is no problem, since I can skim through any portion, but not video.

I'm stumped, and need to think what my next steps are. But in troubleshooting, I don't know where the problems is, Mountain Lion, FCP or something totally unrelated.

After a hour or so with Apple, the only thing they could suggest, which works, is create a new user for the Mac. Using a new user id, FCP worked fine, but they were not able to re-instate my normal id, which is a bummer with all the projects open...
