how to reorder mail accounts?

It seems that Mountain Lion has reordered my list of accounts in the Mail.app and I cannot reorder them by dragging anymore. This is behaviour that many have complained about in iOS, so hopefully there is someway to accomplish reordering in Mountain Lion. Any suggestions?

Makes absolutely no sense, not allowing the user to re-order accounts in Preferences > Accounts. Bad design choice, Apple. Curios to see where apple goes, if they continue like this, I wonder how long, until I can no longer call OS X the best OS on the market.

Perhaps my problem isn't addressed this way. When I choose to send an email, Mail defaults to my Gmail account which is the first one listed in preferences. Since I never want to send from that account, I assume I need to make my comcast account first in the list. You cannot do that in preferences by dragging as mentioned above. But in the inbox pane, the gmail account is already at the bottom so I still don't see how to accomplish what I want.

The problem seems indeed a bug. I can reorder the left side accounts, quit, and reopen - the order is still there. However when I change the server URL (have to do this to receive mail according to being on or off a company network) the order changes to something more alphabetic, with iCloud mail at the top. The order can't be altered in the preferences.

If not a bug I'd like to hear a solution.

Just wanted to bump this thread.

Is anyone still experiencing the same problem as David Estes? @David Esteshave you found a solution?

We have over 25 email accounts in our MacMail.app, and I have spent countless times reorganising our email accounts in an order which suits our workflow.

Each time we have gone and amended a server setting and clicked save, all 25 of our email accounts have reorganised themsleves by server host / type, then in alphabetical order.

Extremely frustrating.

Any ideas?

I also have this problem. It wasn't like this prior to Mountain Lion. This is either a bug or a horrible idea by those at Apple. Users should not be forced to have their mail ordered automatically, especially after manually ordering it the way we want. I will manually order it in the Inbox section of my Mail window. It will be fine, until I decide I need to make a change/fix or otherwise to the mail settings. Then it automatically reorders it back to what it wants. This needs to be fixed or revereted back to how it was prior to Mountain Lion.

The other effect is if you create folders outside of the Inboxes and have mail rules set up to send to those folders, when you select an email from within one of those folders and go to reply, rather than replying from the address you used in the email, it forces reply from the default (first) address in the Inbox section. Yet another change that is driving me crazy. Now I can't comfortably send mail from folders I create that are outside of the Inbox. I am forced to change the address to the address the email came from, annoying. Especially when like many, I have more than one email address set up.

This has me pushed to my limits.

I have a few accounts that are normally turned off (disabled), which I only turn on if my client is having a problem. ANY time you make a change in Mail Preferences, if forces an alphabetization of your accounts in the inbox.

I'm so tired of submitting official bug reports on this, that I finally renamed my accounts with a (1.) (2.) etc. before them... It STILL doesn't work, because mail forces the iCloud to the top of the list... then followed by IMAP accounts... then POP accounts.

This is INCREDIBLY invasive. Trust me... I know my own workflow better than an engineer in Cupertino. I just don't understand who thought this idiocy was a good idea!

If I've taken the time to reorganize it... LEAVE IT ALONE!
