Energy Saver options and Graphics card switching

I bought my macbook pro around april of 2011 and it is a Mac 10.6.8 and I do not have the option to check "automatic graphics switching" i only have "better battery life" or "higher performance". Is this suppose to be the way it is? Because the article says that for early AND late 2011 macbook pro 15's to turn on/off automatic graphics switching, but i do not have that option?????

Yes, check the "higher performance" to enable the dedicated graphics all the time, even for low level graphics the integrated graphics can handle.

In other words "higher performance" turns off graphic switching, eats more battery life.

"Better battery life" enables graphics switching, using the CPU and the dedicated graphics as needed.

However if you do graphics heavy stuff while on battery, then it switches to the dedicated graphics and there is no "better battery life" obviously.
