I have checked with the manufacturers of the printers and drivers are available for Mountain Lion.
Thoughts?
So does the Lion server have these Mtn Lion driver versions? Because I don't think that the 10.8 Mac will try to get the correct drivers from Apple, and certainly not from the vendor, if the server does not have the 10.8 compatible drivers.

Jul 31, 2012 3:05 PM in response to dschultz71by PAHU,What if you install the driver locally and then connect to the printer share on the server? Does this let you add the printer?

Aug 1, 2012 9:34 AM in response to PAHUby dschultz71,Installing them locally worked for one of the printers, but not for the other two. They are all listed in the Apple Printer Support KB article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669

Aug 15, 2012 5:54 PM in response to dschultz71by bigjack827,There are no printer drivers as of today for Mountain Lyon 10.8. This is work around. You will need to install it on a Windows Computer or use Boot Camp running Windows 7. With The USB cable in the computer use the Install disk and set it up for a Network Printer. Once this is done you can unplug the USB cable. Next open Systems Preference , Printers add printer you should see the Samsung network printer add it and your done. Good Luck

Jan 4, 2013 9:20 PM in response to dschultz71by C15JON,I struggled with this for a few hours...
In my case (Mountain Lion on sharing computer and end user client) and with four different shared printers (all connected to the sharing computer via USB), the problem was caused by the Print/Scan dialog (on the end user client machines) not being able to successfully recognise which driver to load automatically.
So here's how to do this manually (assuming the printers work fine locally on the sharing computer)... after pressing the + button, choose "Add Printer or Scanner" (ignoring the temptingly-listed printer you are after), then click on the printer name in the "Add" dialog and then wait - in my case, for several minutes - while it tries to select the best printer driver (in the "Use:" box). Be patient - it looks like a hang but it isn't! In my case, after this wait (which sometimes yielded a "Generic PostScript" suggestion) - pull down the "use" control and choose "Select Printer Software..." then manualy pick the best match.
This worked a charm for me - I hope it helps someone else out there
Kind regards,
Jonathan

Feb 20, 2013 8:58 AM in response to C15JONby KeithGParr,Thank you Jonathan, I'm very grateful for your post. I had exactly the same problem and had no idea what the solution might be. Following your instructions worked.
In my case the server is an old G4 machine running 10.5.8. Surely the software version on the server should not affect its use as a server?
I'd like to understand why the obvious way - selecting nearby printers - didn't work. Does anyone have any idea?
Incidentally, while folllowing the above instructions I noticed that Mountain Lion seems to be supplied with Gutenprint 5.2.7, there's a 5.2.9 update available which I applied. This seems to work fine.

Feb 24, 2013 11:17 AM in response to C15JONby Gayle53,THANK YOU, Jonathan. Your instructions worked perfectly for me setting up my new late 2012 desktop iMac with two hp printers—one laser, one inkjet. I had been trying for hours before finding your solution!

Feb 24, 2013 11:40 AM in response to C15JONby KeithGParr,A little additional information concerning Dymo labelwriters. If you want to use Jonathan's approach above then you need to have the Dymo printer drivers installed on the client machine. If you don't have them then there's a driver which pops up called something like "Dymo Labelwriter" which does not work, when you've installed the Dymo s/w all the Dymo printer drivers will be there for you to select from. Feb 25, 2013 7:17 PM in response to KeithGParrby Gayle53,Thanks Keith. In my case there was no software listed for Dymo 90644. I can live w/o it until I get a new Dymo. But will hang on to your great information!

Mar 19, 2013 2:51 PM in response to C15JONby C15JON,Jonathan again - you know, your hero (or so anyone reading this would think lol!)...
So my fix gets the drivers loaded, great stuff.
My problem is that, even though I have been able to load the drivers and everything looks fine, when I actuallt try to print to one of the remote printers, all I get is "cannot connect to printer" or some such. Very frustrating!
Any thoughts gratefully received.
Kind regards,
Jonathan
PS SheltonsFolly - alas, but I will have to decline. On this occasion. J

For some printers, using the vendor's driver on the remote (client) Mac does not always work. So if you remove the problem printer on the remote Mac and add it again, this time leaving it at Generic Postscript in the Use menu, this may work better for you.
Which of the printer is giving you the trouble (brand and model)?

Mar 20, 2013 9:08 AM in response to KeithGParrby Gayle53,Since my old Dymo absolutely needed updating, I bought a Dymno 450 to use with my iMac running Mt Lion. The disc that came with (version 8.3) did not get it up and running. Nor did the download Dymo led me to—though according to Dymo it should have. But by using your link, I downloaded version 8.5 and all is well. To me, the 450 was worth the investment and is Mt Lion worthy—very cool. Again, thanks.
