Mail unread indicator number no longer appearing in the dock

Right now I have unread email in Mail. There used to be a number indicator in the dock showing how many unread messages there are, but that indicator seems to be gone.

Is there a way of having it show again?

Thanks,

But I don't want badges or anything at all coming from the notifications center. I recently went through figuring out how to turn notifications off! (It's weird, because even if you remove an item from the notifications center, an uncheck all the checkboxes, notifications still keep coming unless you turn the top selection to "none.")

Anyway, I don't want badges, which the notification center docs describe as something which pops up and doesn't go away until you click on it.

OK. Thank you. That worked.

Just letting off a little steam here:

(begin rant)

The new Notifications Center is confusing and broken in many places. Why, for example, doesn't just moving an item out of the notifications center to the "not in notifications center" section stop notifications?

And how are we supposed to guess that "badge app icon" needs to be checked in order to continue to see the number of new emails in the dock?

What does "badge app icon" even mean?

And why do we have to see the notifications item in the menu bar even if all items have been removed from the notifications center?

It's very cryptic. Definitely not something that "just works."

(end of rant)

That absolutely, definitely does not work. I tried it and tested it and while it seems obvious that it shoudl work it does not. I'll bet you 10 yen.

You also have to select the "mail alert style" as "none" to stop notifications. Even if "show in notification center" is unchecked and Mail is in the "not in notification center" section.

Definitely a strange way to work.

I'll admit I had to do some testing to figure this one out. I didn't expect the "badges" to be moved to notification center but I guess that's better than having to visit each app to change the "notifications". Badging icons has been around awhile for new emails, messages/ichat, Calendar alerts, app store updates, I guess it makes sense to move it to a central location.
