Q: canon MP830 not scanning on OS X 10.8

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, the MP Navigator 2.2.4 software for scanning now crashes. I have all the latest Canon software\drivers\firmware.This is despite Canon claiming full compatibility with Mountain Lion. I daresay a solution is being worked on, but I wanted to confirm that others are having the same issue ad that it's not peculiar to me.

Thanks in advance.

Agreed. Had the same dilemma and Image Capture worked just fine on my MP830.

Thanks for the Image Capture tip. I'm surprised that Apple Support didn't suggest it. It's a bit limited compared to MP Navigator, but will do in most instances.

This doesn't absolve Canon of the responsibility of updating MP Naviagtor of course ;-)

I appear to have the same problem except that I can't even get the MP830 to print. I've installed the new drivers, which Canon appears to have posted on 10 August 2012, but the printer continues to insist that it's offline.

I've written to Canon, and they wrote back that I should use the disc utility to repair permissions on the hard drive. I did this, and I could see that a lot of information about the printer was getting updated, but after a reboot it still doesn't do anything.

I've tried moving the USB cable to different ports, and I've tried to install printer a second time, but it isn't gettting recognized at all in the Systems Preferences.

Did those of you who have the printer printing have to do anything after upgrading to Mountain Lion?

You appear to have a different issue then as I believe printing is otherwise unaffected. Have you also rebooted the printer itself? It may otherwise have old software loaded. I'd also run Apple Software Update to ensure you're not missing anything there either. Additionally, I'd look at the printer queue window if available as you can often reenable the printer from there.

Should all of those fail and you have a BootCamp Windows partition, see whetehr the pronter worlks from Windows. Assuming it does, that would at least narrow the field to MacOS.

    Hope that this helps...

Thanks for these suggestions. I have tried rebooting the printer, and that doesn't appear to do anything. Oddly, however, I just discovered that when I turn it off, it ejects the attached hard drive that acts as the disk for my time machine. So there's clearly something odd going on there.

Nothing in the print queue, no software updates in the App Store, and no Windows partition either.

Switching from the USB hub to the iMac itself doesn't help either. Making that switch meant that the time machine didn't get ejected (it runs off the hub), but it did seem to make my UPS think that it had to start powering the computer.

So all of that suggests that it's some odd interaction between the printer and the new version of the OS, appearing to center somehow around the USB connection. So it's definitely a different problem than is otherwise being discussed here, and I'll probably need to put in a call to AppleCare.

I know this sounds a bit weird, have searched 1 hour:

Had the same issue with my Canon MX310 & MP Navigator EX 1.0

    Have found an update at

    http://support-sg.canon-asia.com/contents/SG/EN/0200013221.html

    Now it works.

There is also an update for MP Navigator 2.0.6 on this page from Aug 3

    http://support-sg.canon-asia.com/contents/SG/EN/0200041018.html

and also an Update for MP navigator Vers 3.05

    http://support-sg.canon-asia.com/contents/SG/EN/0200082402.html

Let me know if this helps.

    Kind regards

    Ernest
