Unable to install updates or apps.

For the past few days whenever I try to install updates or new apps bet icon shows briefly then disappears. Also when I try to buy things within my apps nothing happens. It's getting very frustrating. I hope someone can help. I've hooked both devices up to the computer to check for new software etc but nothing had helped.
