iCal does not sync with iPhone via iTunes

I have installed Mountain Lion on my Macbook Air couple of days ago and the calendar stopped syncing with my iphone. I sync through iTunes as I do not wish to use iCloud. Sync is set to all calendars and all events (no restriction), but nothing goes through. Tried adding events through my iPhone or through the Macbook, no difference, they do not get across to the other device. I have checked all settings, they seem to be carried forward from Lion unchanged. Any ideas or is it a Mountain Lion fault. Please do not tell me that the only way to sync will be through iCloud!

Further to this I have tried some of the tricks from other forums. At some point the sync started to work, not sure the cause. Deleted cache files from the Library>Calendars and Library>Preferences (mail and external sync settings) as well as from Caches the whole iCal folder. Feel free to experiment, now it does sync both ways.

Dear ZOO1 and eugenephoen, THANKS! that worked. For a minute they had me frightened I had to use "the Cloud" but your solution worked for me too. Delete the "Calander Cache" file and the folder "Calander Sync Changes" from ~/'your-user-name'/Library/Calendars folder solves the issue. Wonder if this trick solves the issue with all other reported problems with syncing (like reminders, notes etc.), I don't need them synced. Also wondered if this is a one-off or needs repair time and time again, but a quick test shows syncing works continuously now. Thanks mates, you made my day.

Thank you for the well-meant advice

Sorry - none of it works

To say I am frustrated is a joke!!!!

For starters my system does not follow the logic of Z001 - the file sequence is fifferent on my PB. The only cache file I could locate was 'Calendar Cache' and deleting it made no difference

IAs a precaution I did first export my Calendar to the desktop; then I exited the Cloud; tried to do a manual sync between iPhone and PB. But watching the iTunes indicator bar reveals that the cal syn is simply not happening

So there is a bug.

Heck, my rave has always been how flawlessly the iPhone and MB speak to each other, Mountain Lion has wrecked that.

At present the only workable solution is to dump Mountain Lion and go back to Lion.

thank you very much for the tip! finally worked for me!! realized the other day that everything that i entered on my iphone doesn't sync with my laptop. was so frustrated with the problem.

i love apple products but i hate it when apples forces us to move to something not everyone wants... like icloud... notes syncing is only possible via icloud with mountain lion... or is there a workaround?

Help. I tried to find the cache files as posted. Went to finder>go>library but no files with calendar or iCal to be found. I did searches...nothing. The cache files had nothing to do with the calendar. The apple.com things - nothing related to calendar. I'm fairly computer literate so this is really bugging me.

I have three iPhones sync'ng to same iTunes account with crazy calendars - this is causing a schedule crisis.
