Q: How can I deactivate the "guest user"

It works for me, so I don't know why it's not working for you:

It's working for me in that sense.

However, it still shows up as Disabled in the Users & Groups preference panel.

You can't get rid of it there.

Hi LukasCF . I had the same problem . it turns out that if the option of guest account in settings is greyed out it means your guest account is logged in .

solution : sign into your guest account . log out and delete files . go to your account and you will be able to access the guest account tab.

Are you all clicking the lock to allow changes to be made?

Mine was grayed out before I clicked this, but seemed to have no problems getting rid of it.

you cannot really remove it, it's part of the icloud setting, the Find My Mac feature, incase you got your mac stolen orlost you can easily locate it through thiis so just leave it be you can deactivate it though in the system preferences users&groups, though the icon in the login won't be removed. once you've deactivated it, you won't be able to select it anymore in the system preferences and it'll look transparent grey.

you can only delete guest acct while logged into the guest acct.

deactivate, find my mac

automatically the guest user created not by you will be deactivated.

i logged into the guest user, went to system preferences clicked on parental controls click the unlock button click on guest user and hit the minus button at the bottom

It was really simple.

Just delete your unwanted "users" from system preferences.

Just go to:

System Preferences > Users & Groups > Uncheck the box shown here after unlocking the preferences

I know, most of you will still find other "user" in log in area.

Easily, just go to:

Library > find user file directory (or you can easily find "users" in search box) > and you will see admin and user file shown > just delete the "deleted users" file (consider your want to get rid of it and don't want to use it anymore)

For your information, Apple is really care about deleting your data information. That's why the system is over protective.
