Mountain Lion: problems with hooking up an external hard drive

I have a MBP. Using Lion, I set up a 1TB external hard drive and have used it without problem. Now, after installing Mountain Lion, I cannot even get it hooked up. I insert the USB plug and the system states I have ejected the disk. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Did you try using a different USB port? Or with another USB cable? IMO your issue is not related to software.

Thanks, but I have tried about everything I know. I have been on the rocketfish web site and eveyone who has updated to 10.8 is having this issue. I can take the HDD to another Mac with 10.7 and it works. When I hook it up to 10.8, both my MBP and an iMac, it immediately gives the warning that I have wrongly unplugged a USB device. After that, the system locks up. I have to do a hard restart every time.

I have had the same problem after upgrading to Mountain Lion. I have problems when I connect my wacom tablet - sometimes it recognizes it sometimes it doesn't , if I switch it to one port or another it freezes the system. I have an older wacom tablet which doesn't have the problem in the same way - it only works form one port. I have been onto wacom support (who are very good at responding to problems) , their suggestions so far have been to try different drivers. I have tried 4 so far with no luck, sometimes it works for a bit sometimes it doesn't, but I always get issues when I plug it out and plug it back in......
