Cannot update mac, "Connection Reset By Peer"

Please Help!!!!

My computer has been very slow for the last few weeks, cannot figure out what is wrong. I noticed there are some Lion updates available, I currently have 10.7.2. It has worked fine for months until a few weeks ago, now the computer freezes from the simplest tasks. When I try to download the update the same message appears everytime, "Connection Reset By Peer." I have no idea what this means. I am living in Mexico, could that be a problem for the updates?

Sometimes I get the beach ball wheel and it spins forever, other times it just completely freezes and I can't even move the mouse. This started a week or so after I started a usb celular modem, I have since stopped using it and deleted all the contents that were installed with it. Another thing, if I am forced to restart the computer because it is frozen, it often gets stuck in the booting process and never leaves the grey apple screen. When it does restart, about 1 in 4 attempts, it takes 15-20 minutes to boot up again. Thanks for any help.

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive may be failing.

Launch the usual set of applications you use when you notice the problem.

Step 1

Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:

Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.

Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.

Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.

Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.

Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?

Next, select the Disk Activity tab. What approximate values are shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec?

Step 2

You must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.

Launch the Console application in the same way as above. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.

Post the 50 or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.

Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out before posting.

Kernel_task is running at 107% CPU, don't know how that's even possible or why. Everything else is barely taking any % of CPU

16% User

77% System

5% Idle

Then drops to 1%, 52% 46% after not doing anything else for a minute.

Page Outs and Swap Used are both at 0 bytes

Data Read/ Data Wrtitten are both at 0 with the occasional jump from 2-137 bytes on the written

The very first thing in this list is troubling to me, it says "banda ancha movil", that is the name of the Telcel wide band mobile modem (I'm in Mexcio), but I have already deleted everything I could find with that name on the computer.

You haven't completely uninstalled the modem software, or you haven't rebooted since you uninstalled it. You also tried to uninstall Akamai Download Manager, and didn't completely succeed.

Customer FAQ - Download Manager V3

Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the third-party developers, or to follow their instructions. In some cases it may be necessary to re-download or even reinstall the software in order to get rid of it.

Here are some general guidelines. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickYourMac.” First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickyourmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, email the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickYourMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickYourMac.” If not, open “BrickYourMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.

If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase your boot volume and perform a clean reinstallation of OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.

Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" that purport to remove software.
