Hey everyone:
I am a first time MacBook user, just got it on Monday actually. I need a word processor ASAP as I am a university student and I have a paper to write. I am wondering what is my best option for typing up papers, Pages or Word for Mac? If anyone could give me a general basis of what to expect from each product that would be great!

I like Word myself, just because I am familiar with it and have used it in the past. (So that reason is strictly opinion.)
The Advantages and Disadvantages that I can think of for both:
Word:
Advantages: More commonly used so people/professors will be able to open your files easier.
Disadvantages: Not an Apple product and can't be saved to iCloud. Price
Pages:
Advantages: Better integrated into Mac because it's an Apple program. Price. Easy to upgrade.
Disadvantages: (My opinion) It's harder to use, but some like it better.

I would say, for formal papers, go with Word. You'll no doubt be more familiar with it and it is more versatile (downright bloated in fact).
Pages is more for people like me who don't need formal stuff, don't have to swap files with PC users and generally find Word something of a pain.
Pages is good for general correspondence and for desktop publishing.
