Aug 1, 2012 2:44 PM in response to Mik1812by Kenichi Watanabe,The left side is controlled by the system and whatever app you are using at the time, so it really can't be customized. The left side has some set functions, such as Spotlight menu, but other things can be added.
Some of those items are from System Preferences. Some of the panes in System Preferences have a checkbox to show a shortcut in the menu bar. For example, the Sound pane has the option to Show volume in menu bar.
Other items can be added by third-party software. For example, I have one that shows current memory use, called FreeMemory (downloaded from Mac App Store). The preferences for those apps will have the options for what is displayed in the menu bar.
