I have downloaded the recent versin of itunes and I cant sync anything

I have recently downloaded the new version of Itunes and for some reason it will not sync my contatcs and it freezes , I have to close down as the program states "not responding" I have re booted and tried again and I have turned off the compatilbility off

Please can someone advise
