My iPhone 4 won't charge while on but will charge off what's wrong

I have a similar problem with my iPhone 4S, and am working on a fix with Apple.

To get more help from forum, give your model number (3, 4, 4S, 5), the IOS (3, 4, 5, 6)

When did problem start ?

Will your phone charge if you use the wall charger, if plugged into your computer ?

What type of computer (Mac or PC), and what OS?

After you plug it in (charger or computer) if you turn the iPhone off, will it then charge ?

What have you tried to fix problem?

Can you back it up on iCloud ? If you can backup it on iCloud you could follow

Hi. i faced the exact same problem i cant even charge my iphone 4s while it is on. The iOS is 6.1

All this while the iphone 4s works perfectly.

i) Last week, when i try to charge the phone (using my laptop), i realize that it wont charge.

ii) i try to clean the iphone charging port, with the idea that may be its too dirty/ dusty at the charging port. When i connect the charger to my iphone, it wont charged.

iii) Then, instead of connecting the USB cable to my laptop, i try to connect directly to the power plug, but it still wont charge.

iv) So i thought that may be the problem is the cable it self. So i went to Machines (Authorised Apple Products) and bought a new USB cable, However my iphone still wont charge.

So at night the battery is fully drained and empty, i try to connect the phone while it is OFF, and in the morning, when i wake up, the phone have been fully charged (100%).

So i thought the phone is ok now. When i reach at the office and try to charge the phone again, then i realize, my iPhone wont charge while it is on. it will only charge when it is off. i cant even restore it as my iphone cannot be connected to itunes while it is on.

Anyone having the same problem? Hope you guys can help.

iPhone 4S, iOS 6.1

I called Apple and after discussing the issue the iPhone 4S was replaced.

I don't live near an Apple store, so I gave them my credit card number and got the phone (in Canada) in 2 working days. Once they received my old phone Apple notified me the card was freed up.

Apple originally offered to replace the $25 screen film but I didn't get a replacement.

Plug the phone into your Mac (if you have one), then turn it off and it will charge up. Next day it will be charged and you should be able to backlit it up to the Mac or to the cloud. Then you can transfer the data to your new iPhone. Don't forget to erase the old one.

I'm not sure how old this issue is, but i'm still having the same problem and have been for quite a few months now. I even reset the whole phone thinking it was a software malfunction, but I guess I'll have to take it into the apple store and see whats up with it
