This may be an Adobe issue, but I have tried to copy and past from Illustrator 10 into a Illustrator CS file and keep getting this error message: Adobe PDF File Format is having difficulties. There was a Macintosh system error (-37). Then Illustrator 10 crashes. I don't understand why I'm given a PDF error, when that app isn't open and I'm in Illustrator. Any ideas?
System Error -37 is bdNamErr, Bad file name, or not 😉
Perhaps it sees it as a .pdf. Have you chosen the file and inspected the file with "Get Info" command-i, to be sure the proper extension is assigned? Have you tried a "save as" on the file?
I did a command i and have tried saving as. I've also tested this on different files and the same thing happens. I think it's related to files that were created in versions 9 and earlier. I created a new file in v. 10 and did a c/p into CS and that didn't crash the app. Will keep troubleshooting.

this thread on the Adobe Illustrator Mac forum will be helpful. You might want to set the Illustrator preferences for the Clipboard (in both versions of Illustrator) to use only the AICB format.
