Hi,
I upgraded to iPhoto 11 and now when I open the iPhoto Library I get this message:
" Caution, The Iphoto Library is on a locked volume. Reopen iPhoto when you have read/write access, or reopen iPhoto with the Option Key held down to choose another library".
How do I unlock the volume?

Where is the Library stored?
On external hard drive.
What format is that drive?
Mac extended.
I upgraded to iPhoto 9.3.2 and I am running Lion.
You can lock and unlock a Volume with the Get Info window in the Finder.
Assuming it's unlocked, will iPhoto let you create a new Library on the drive?

I did that and unlocked the Lock but everything is grayed out. I can't make any changes.

Can you check the box at 'Ignore Permissions'? Other than that I'd be asking on the OS X forum for your version of the OS.

Set Ownership to be ignored as Terence suggested:
If that doesn't do the trick download BatChmod and drag the library into it's window. Set the settings as shown below and apply.

I have the same issue on 10.8. Not sure I understand as where do you drag??where is that window?

Pamed - Try this.
Hold down the option key on your keyboard while launching iphoto.
You should see a window that says "Which photo library do you want iPhoto to use?"
Depending on how many you've set up. Highlight the library you want to open.
