Cannot mount AFP from OS X Server 2.0

I've upgraded my Mac min to Mountain Lion OS X Server 2.0. Now I cannot access my shares via AFP. I can see the server in the server list, but when I try to connect it fails. Actually afp://hostname.local:548 doesn't work anymore. Unfortunately I cannot find any error messages in the log.

Restarting file sharing and setting up a new share didn't help.

The computer cannot find printers on the network using Bonjour. Connecting a printer worked only using the IP address.

In my case Mountain Lion already fills in a space (" ") in the username field, maybe deleting the space before you enter your credentials helps in your case too 😀

548 already is AFP, right? Why would you add that?

Furthermore I'd check if port 548 is opened on your server by telnetting to it:

"telnet steve.local 548" from an other Mac times out. On steve itself I can connect.

But the firewall is disabled (sudo pfctl -d).

ping steve is okay.

Interesting... Something must be blocking the access to that port.

Are routers blocking port 548 (TCP)?

Do you have an Airport Extreme (or Time Capsule) for instance that you haven't told to forward port 548 to your server?

I was going to tell you to change the authentication method to standard in the Server Admin app but I just discovered there is no Server Admin app for 10.8 (yet). Sorry, you may need to call Apple for this one. Please post their response here if you do.
