Help! Clean install Mountain lion, nothing happened after entering Apple ID

I am having the same issue right now, aug 2nd. Maybe something is glitchy at apple's servers today

Exact same thing happening to me, i've tried everything!

I created a bootable USB flash drive with a copy of the Mountain Lion installer on it and used that. It works with not problem. The flash drive does not have to contact the App Store so it skips that step and everything works.

Only problem with this approach is you need another Mac where you can download the Mountain Lion installer and create the bootable flash drive.

Same thing here with the exact same error messages. I've tried using both a memory stick and the recovery partition.

Add me to the same list I took my mac bac to an apple store to show them whats happening they are just reinstalling ML for me

Try burning your own ML install disk or Thumb drive...........or find someone who's done it. You'll need to find another mac and redownload your installer but don't install it. Burn the installer to disk or thumb and boot from that. Might work.

Same problem for me, it never gets anywhere.

Those saying to download an installer from another mac - doesn't that have to be done through your own App store account user name and password?

Might not be great giving away your account details to get someone to download it for you if that's the case.

I have been having the same issue, it has been working as I have done a few clean installs using ML hidden restore partition for friends, but last night at 2am( UK time) it stopped working, using alt+cmd+r just gives you Internet recovery which downloads Lion for me as that is what my iMac came with (mid 2011) but now on Lion the App store crashes on a clean install too. I would suggest contacting Apple as the more people who let them know about this issue the better, then this can be sorted out hopefully.

I have had this problem today as well, I phoned Apple and they said it's a known issue that they don't know how to fix it at the moment. I can't get past the grey start up screen with the Apple logo and the spinning wheel. I can get in to the recovery utility but can't download ML.

I went to a repair centre earlier today and they installed it from a disk they had made themselves and it booted twice after that and then died again.

I've booked in for them to call me tomorrow morning so I'll see what they have to say.

In the recovery partition press alt+cmd+r and you will get Internet recovery start up, wait for the spinning earth globe to stop (5 mins on my line) and the progress bar will complete, then you will be able to download a fresh install of Lion of your Mac came with that.

Same issue for me. I had to use my Time Machine backup to restore the system, then enter the Mac App Store, download Mountain Lion from there, create a USB-drive with it, and then finally wipe the HD again and install it. I will keep that USB-drive from now on.
