can anybody help how to connect my macbook pro to a printer with WPS? the printer is already connected to the router using WPS, but my macbook does not seem to connect to the printer. thank you very much in advance best, N.

By WPS do you just mean a wifi protected setup? That is, a WPA2 password encrypted wifi connection?
If so, what make and model of printer? Have you installed the printer's drivers and any software utilities it uses? Have you opened the printer settings in control panel and tried to add the printer as a networked printer?

thank you for your reply. Yes I installed drivers. The printer is a Samsung SCX3405W. The printer is marked as shared in the system preferences. problem is printer is on now but according to my macbookpro is offline...thank you for your insights...regards. Nic
If you go to the printer, are you sure it is actively connected to the wifi network? Some printers do have problems some time with power save modes and not reconnecting to the wifi subnet when awakened (my Kodak wifi/printer scanner had that originally, but a firmware update fixed it).
I am not 100% sure. Printer works (it actually prints) if I connect to it via USB. when I press WPS button on both printer and router I am not sure they connect between each other. what would you suggest to do? thank you Nic
I just have a print out from the printer that gives network configuration. it says SSID equal to the name of my router...status information: connected; WPS pin number 87614bla bla; Wi-Fi current status: not connected. is this of any help? thank you Nic
So it is no on your wifi network. I'd suggest you look up the support docs for that printer on Samsung's web site and go through the steps there to get it on your wifi network. Once it is, it should be a simple matter to add that network printer to your Mac via control panel.
I've never used a Samsung printer, which is why I say you should check their docs (they must have a step by step guide for connecting to your wireless network). On most machines with a built in display, it is much like any other wifi device - go in, enter or select teh SSID, enter your WPA2 password or whatever encryption key you use andoff you go. Unless your router is using MAC address filtering, in which case you'd need to go into the router's admin page and add the printers MAC address.
I had difficulty setting up my ML 1865w printer 😠, but eventually this comination worked.
Install Mac OSX 'SamsungPrinterDrivers' / connect printer via usb / locate wired printer in 'printers and scanners'. Install and run 'EasyWirelessSetupForMac V1.2.3' / set up via usb option for wireless operation
An additional instance of the printer should now appear. Select this and print a test page while still conected via usb. Disconnect and print 2nd test page...worked for me 🙂
