Aug 2, 2012 1:17 PM in response to nounstudiosby léonie,Have you done any of the basic trouble shooting already? I'd start with repairing permissions and repairing the library.
Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805
Also, can it be that you are running out of disk space?
What did you do, before this trouble started? did you import images or install new software? Have you changed any settings?

Aug 2, 2012 1:38 PM in response to léonieby nounstudios,Ran software update overnight. Came in and started working on the same library that worked fine yesterday. No other software installed other than the mountain lion related updates for Safari that came through with the same software update. No new images imported. This was a library with only one project and the library resides on an external hard drive (this is how our studio normally works: one shoot = one project = one library on an external drive. I know it's a little bit of overkill, but it makes sharing libraries between photo editors and archiving weddings very easy).
900gb open space on iMac, 1tb open space on hard drive.
I will try the permissions thing and post results.

Aug 16, 2012 12:43 PM in response to léonieby nounstudios,I went through all of the trouble shooting basics and did the repairs. This did not solve the problem. The wierd thing is this problem is so random. I can lift and past settings five times and then the sixth time it will lock on the spinning beachball. The next time it might be on the first or second lift and stamp.
As mentioned above, our libraries are very simple. Usually one wedding per library. This issue happens in multiple libraries. I edited photos for about an hour yesterday and had to force quit no less than 20 times. So frustrating. Any help is appreciated!!

Aug 16, 2012 1:06 PM in response to nounstudiosby léonie,What are your exact system versions - Aperture and MacOS? Your signature says 10.7.4, but you mention Mt. Lion?
Is your external drive directly connected or a is it a network volume?
And does the freezing happen only in your acount or also when logged into a different account?
Do you see any diagnostic messages in the Console window (launch the Console from Applications > Utilities, if it is not running routinely) when the freezing occurs?
Try the hardware checks described here, just in case - maybe you have disk trouble or defective RAM:

Aug 16, 2012 1:37 PM in response to léonieby nounstudios,Processor 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)
Aperture is 3.3.2
I only have one account on this computer.
We connect dives two ways:
Way 1: Hard drive is G-Raid 2TB connected directly to the computer.
Way 2: G-drive Mini is daisy chained to the G-Raid.
I am going to try to determine if the problems are specific to libraries on one drive versus the other.
I will keep console open. I did a string search for "aperture" and it showed a handful of messages from today, but I haven't been editing photos today so it wouldn't be related. They all appear to be related to "shared window" or "window list with groups".
I will also do the hardware tests.

Aug 30, 2012 12:11 AM in response to nounstudiosby dancarson,I have the same issue on my iMac
The version previous to the update 3.3.2 was fine.
Once updated to 3.3.2 on Lion it would crash on the Stamp feature.
Updated to Mountain Lion and still happens. Makes no difference on libraries, time open, import, etc...
All images are on the local HDD and have 1.2TB free.
Have done permissions repairs, etc...
Didn't do the Aperture update on my 2009 MacBook Pro 13" (still on Lion) and no issues at all. So will wait for a while before taking that update.
