I looked into ATTO at one time when I contemplating buying a new Mac Tower a few years back.

I have a high quality large format SCSI scanner that I used on my G4 running OS X 10.5.8

I felt ATTO was just way overpriced for their cards.

The SCSI card I had installed in my PowerMac was less $100.

ATTO wanted between $250-$450 for their cards and plus I still needed a special cable to connect to my scanner which has original SCSI

I just couldn't justify that much for a card that all it would do was run a 5 year old larger format scanner.

I own a newer iMac now and am really upset that I have this great large format scanner, but can't use it any longer.

I am no longer in a position to be able to purchase a newer large format scanner that would work on USB or FireWire.

You could try and see if you can find an SCSI card that works with Macs on eBay or even Amazon.

There are Adaptec drivers native to OS X, though they are far from perfect.

More than just the SCSI support, most of the software that was used with SCSI devices wasn't updated.

In Tiger, I Use an Adaptec 2930u with Vuescan to operate a film scanner.

Tiger was the last to have any real SCSI support, with Leopard totally destroying any SCSI support in OS X.

ACard has some SCSI cards reported to work in Tiger:

I have a UL3S ATTO card which works happily with my Seagate SCSI equipped Quicksilver running 10.4 Tiger. Came from eBay and the tab wasn't too bad. I think the special ribbon was almost as much. Try pricing a couple of new large size SCSI hard drives if you want a shock. I don't really know if a SCSI setup is any better or faster, but mine keeps working so I keep it.

Have a multitude of Adaptec 2930 ** SCSI cards, as well as a very fancy looking AEC 6885 MS ACARD - none of which I have ever used. All have come with used Macs - probably G4s - of one sort or another. Sold a SCSI equipped beige G3 not too long ago to a chap who used a raft of scanners in his business - as far as I know they're all still plugging away.

The Adaptec cards look cheap on eBay - some with ribbon included - or look at my profile for an email address.
