White lines through iMac screen

I have a 5,1 iMac, Core 2 Duo White Plastic 17". It has the common white lines through the screen. It looks almost like this: http://scienceman.com/images/z_imac_lines_001.jpg.

Does anyone know of a program (maybe switchresx does this?) where I can crop my screen so that it's on one side? I'd rather cut my losses rather than deal with trying to imagine what's behind the white stripe.

What happens when you change the resolution with Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Display? Have you tried connecting a Mini-DVI adapter to a 1080p TV or LCD monitor to see if the problem happens on an external display as well? Have you replaced the PRAM battery in the last 4 years.

The White Bar remains when the resolution is changed. I haven't tried connecting a display because i don't have an adapter. The white bar is there during boot up. I believe it is the LCD and not the video card.

You may want to bring it in for service to determine at least if it is the screen or the video card. They should at least be able to help you troubleshoot that for free. You can also run the hardware test which may be able to help you isolate it:
