No. Mountain Lion is strictly 64-bit. However, if your VPN software needs to run in 32-bit mode you can change that by selecting application. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. Check the box to open in 32-bit mode in the upper pane.
I did the Command I and opened Get Info window but there is no box to check to open in 32-bit mode
Then it's not an option for the software. Is this VPN software something essential? Or can you try some other VPN software or use Back To My Mac?
I have the same issue. Cisco VPN will not run in 64 bit mode. I didn't realize ML couldn't use the 3 + 2 when booting to boot into 32 bit mode. I've already upgraded and now I'm stuck. I cannot use the native Mac VPN for Cisco because the receiving side is not up to date and won't accept it. It has to come from Cisco VPN Client. Any other ideas besides loading a VM for Windows, which I do not want to do. Thanks.
ke715 - have you resolved this issue yet? I am having exactly the same problem. I'm running Mac 10.8 ML, Cisco VPN will not work as there is no way to boot into 32 bit mode. I setup the built in cisco ipsec vpn but after entering all the information, I get an error: "The negotiaion with the VPN server failed. Verify the server address and try reconnecting."
PSKR101 - I have confirmed that OS X 10.8 does not support 32 bit and in my situation the customer would need to upgrade their Cisco firewall to allow the Mac native VPN connect to work, which they have not done and are not going to do anytime soon. I had to fall back on running Cisco through my Windows VM. Not the preferred solution, but the only one I found that works. 🙂
Ok thanks. I guess I'll pursue the Widows VM option until cisco comes up with a fix for ML.
Hello, KE715
Have you found any solution to run VPN in Mountain Lion without doing with windows VM?
thanks
No, I never did. Most of my customers have since upgraded their servers to work with the Mac VPN (with the cisco configuration). I have 2 customer left who haven't and for those, I have to boot up Parallels and do it through Windows. Not ideal, but that's the best solution I could find.
Thanks,
KE
