Dropbox accessible without service?

i need to go overseas in the next month and i am trying to figure out what is and what is not accessible when i am out of range and/or what i am /paying/ for when using my phone and/or computer.

does anyone know if i can basically access /all/ my data on my phone that is in DROPBOX even if i am out of range of service or have something shut off so i am not paying for it?

Dropbox can be accessed without internet connection (I just tried using the Airplane Mode). But you need to make sure that all the files are synchronized to the phone, which especially applies to files that were loaded to Dropbox from other devices. If the files are not opened at least once they will not be accessible, as they have not yet been downloaded.

hi. thank you.

can you help me understand this a little better?

if i move a file or folder to dropbox, you are saying i need to take another action to get this to the phone? or you are saying that if i don't have access to dropbox (for instance in airplane mode) that i would have had to literally open the file or the all files in the folder in order to have access...?

To expand on what Meg said and answer your question:

If you move a file or folder to dropbox on your local computer, then the upload to the Dopbox "cloud" happens automatically (assuming you have set it up that way). However the iPhone will only actually download the files that you open. When you open the Dropbox program in iPhone it will only download the file information at first. The files are only downloaded one by one "on demand", when you open them.

So yes, you would literally have to open each file one time to ensure the download to the phone.
