Try to go to Settings and then Store. Tap to your Apple ID and select View Apple ID. Now choose to check your payment information and when you're done tap Done. I had to rewrite my three digit code of the credit card and now it works.
Oh, I also activated Genius for Apps but I don't think it makes any difference.
Im having the same problem. But im using an itunes card and it says i still have like $20 left but it wont let me use it. How do I fix this problem?
Thank you glorfindelor!! that totally fixed my problem. i didnt have to re type my gift card but just going to the payment information and pressing done again fixed it. I was starting to get super ******!
You're welcome! Glad to help you.
Thank you from here, too. That also worked for us, and is probably behind the crashes I experienced this morning when trying to do an in-app purchase. I only got the error when I couldn't download a free app.
I've got the same problem too at the moment, whenever I try to make an in-app purchase.
Each time, it gets fixed for a single purchase if I do the View ID/Payment details trick mentioned above - but then it comes back immediately afterwards.
I have this exact same problem, would love any help? Apple?
Still having this issue as well. Really annoying.
I got it, thanks in part to Glorfindleor! I went into my Apple ID payment options and where I have a default credit card on file, I selected "none" instead of my mastercard. Then my gift card balance kicked in and I downloaded just fine. It seems the account gets confused when there are more than one payment options. So I guess having too much ability to pay is as much a problem as having none. If you're getting that message when you have both a gift card and a default credit card, try unselecting your default credit card, hope that helps. God bless & happy tunes!

Appreciate everyone's ideas but this still only fixes the problem for one time and then it goes back to giving me the warning. C'mon Apple, this really is a bit shoddy!
If you go to settings and do the stuff then go to payment info, hit done there and then hit the other done on the main apple ID page thing. It should work now comicbooknigel
Nope, again I really do appreciate the attempts but it only ever works the once and then when I try another purchase I get the warning message come up. This is true wether it's an iTunes voucher or my regular credit card. I have never had any problems with iTunes before this but it's getting quite tedious now!
I am having this same exact problem with my BRAND NEW iPad I just got today. Got $100 gift card and I have to do this trick with EVERY download?! Super annoying. If someone could give a real fix I would love u forever. Not impossible. Just really annoying. I wanna enjoy my new iPad and instead I'm annoyed. :-(
Since this looks to be a general Apple problem with purchases made on accounts with gift credit, I hope that they're 1 - aware of the problem and 2 - working on a fix.
Of course, we're not going to really know a fix has happened unti the error goes away....
This worked for me. Sign out of ur apple ID completely and then just sign back in. Now I can enjoy myself. Also delete ur payment info until ur gift card balance is all used up.
