My iMessages is always in "Offline" mode.

I upgraded to mountain lion a couple of weeks ago and Im finding that there are several bugs that need to be work out.

(Probably why people were telling me to wait a few months...)

Currently, I am not able to use iMessages. I will not allow me to Go Online/Available. It is stuck in Offline Mode and will

not allow me to change it.

I went to preferences and told the program to never kick me "Offline", even after the computer goes to sleep and

it still doesnt work.

Anyone having similar issues with iMessages?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion, Upgraded from OS X Lion 10.7

HI,

Are you saying that in Messages Menu > Preferences > Account the iMessages "Account" cannot be Enabled ?

Off Line or not being able to Set Available would normally refer to a Buddy list (or two)

The Default in iChat and Messages is to link all the "iChat Style" Accounts into one collected Buddy List.

This can then suffer one "list" within that being effected by the settings of another.

I would go to the Message menu > Preferences > General Section

In here, untick the box that reads like this (red arrow)

This will separate out Any AIM logins and Jabber Logins you have in to individual Buddy lists

Then check each Status Setting and make sure none is Set to Make All Accounts the same when one is set to Off Line or Invisible.

Please, if posting Logs, do not post any Log info after the line "Binary Images for iChat"

HI,

As with the Original Poster some info on what sort of Account you are trying to Login would help.

With the Original Ports I feel they are referring to the Messages App as iMessages (it sends iMessages to either Contacts or IMs to Buddies).

The Apple ID is used to set up the "iMessage" Account

You can then use AIM and Jabber Screen Names or IDs

the iMessage Account can be Enabled or effectively turned Off.

It does not have Buddy list that can be Set to "Available" or "Away" or some Message.

By Default if you have several Buddy lists they are joined together to present one list.

Technically the settings should be separate but you need to view the Buddy Lists separately and then check the Status settings individually.

I have the same problem and am sure I must simply be using it wrong but can't find any sort of user guide.

I have logged into messages using my iCloud account, which shows in my accounts under preferences as there and enabled. When I go to 'Accounts' under the messages tab iMessage is ticked (I don't have Gmail or Bonjeur so these two are unticked). However when I go to 'My Status' everything is greyed out.

I receive iMessages on my iPhone regularly, but non of them have ever showed up on my iMac Messages App, so currently it's a complete waste of time, but I'd love to be able to use it on my iMac too and have my messages synced between the two Apple devices.

I am assuing this is the same as the OP was trying to refer to.

Hi,

The "Status" refers to the iChat type Accounts or Buddy lists if you are displaying them

The iMessages Account does not display a Buddy List.

If You Enable the Bonjour Account (even if you dont' have another Mac on your LAN) and then use the Window Menu > CMD +1 you should see the Bonjour Buddy List

Then you can se the Status. (It will not effect your iMessage Account)

If Messages is On then the iMessages account is either Enabled and Logged in or it is not.

Ok, so I think I follow that, but to clarify for the way my mind works, what you're saying is;

The 'My Status' option is completely irrelevant for an iCloud Messages Account, and if the App is running, I should receive messages on Messages when they are sent to me?

Assuming that's the case, I am not receiving anything to my Messages App at all, ever, even though I am receiving them to my iPhone.

Or is it a case that Messages does not receive things unless they are initially started using the App on my iMac?

Hi,

Yes iMessages is a Bolt-on to the iChat App that has then changed it name to Messages.

It does not have a Buddy List and is therefore Uneffected by the Status Setting.

iMessages sent to your Apple ID should appear on your Messages App

Those sent to your Phone will not Sync yet (It is coming with iOS 6)

(Some of us feel that Messages Beta behaved differently)

Messages sent to the Apple ID should sync across all Devices and Computers that are using that Apple ID

Try Setting the Phone in Settings > Messages > Received At > Caller ID to the Apple ID
Also Trun the Phone Completely Off and reboot

This makes sure there is aa break with the iMessages server and then Syncing will start

(Of Course Messages has to be On)
