Refurbished Macbook Pro

How good are the refurbished Macbook Pros on the Apple website? Is it safe to buy them and how are they sold in such a steep discount? Any thoughts and advise is appreciated.

Many people here have been happy with their purchases from the Apple refurb store. It is completely safe to purchase from them and they come with a full warranty. For starters, they can sell them at a discount because they're the one that makes them in the first place... so they can sell them for whatever they want. Once a package has been opened, they are prohibited from legally selling them as "new".

And Happy Friday to you...the refurb units are highly thought of in these Communities...some are new machines that were opened and not used, some demo machines, some returned machines, and some returned and repaired machines. Any machine that has had repairs done will have had the batteries replaced, perhaps cases if there were any marks at all on the case...you cannot tell the refurb unit from new.

Same warranty as a new unit, but still get AppleCare like you would for any product of this cost.

That one looks just fine, and getting what was origially $1700 for $1350 (plus the 1-year warranty, ML-up-to-date, and AppleCare-eligible) is a bargain.

This one is more expensive (http://store.apple.com/us/product/G0M18LL/A), but my personal bias is in play.

I like the hi-res (1680x1050) anti-glare screen, and it comes with 750 GB drive. Both features seem worth the extra $$. Btu that is my opinion only. You should try to find a hi-res 15 in at an Apple Store and see if you like the hi-res better than standard res.

BTW ... I am typing on a refurbished MBP 15 in hi-res anti-glare from Feb 2011.
