No Sleep Option in Windows 7

I just got a new MacBook Pro with Retina display and bootcamped it with Windows 7 Professional. After running windows update, there were some issues with the keyboard and there was no sleep option in the power management settings.

I repaired the bootcamp drivers from the DVD I had burned and that fixed both problems.

After that I started having problems where the computer wouldn't wake from sleep. Sometimes it would make noice and the capslock light would go on and off, but the only way to get the display to turn on was to plug in an external display or turn off the computer.

Most of the time the computer wouldn't sleep at all and would just shut down. When restarting windows, I would be offered the option to start in safe mode and after logging in, I had a message that windows had not been properly shut down.

Today, after booting into windows, I no longer had the sleep option in the shutdown menu or power management. I tried running the repair from my bootcamp drivers DVD again, but it didn't restore the sleep option.

I'm guessing this is a driver or firmware problem. Has anyone managed to fix it?

I have the same issue as well. I have been looking everywhere for a solution, but alas, I have had no luck. I tried reinstalling the video driver, rolling it back, looking into anything that has changed, but I can't figure it out.

My issue started out because every time my computer went to sleep, it didn't shut down correctly and I got the error message when I booted up again. The error message said that I got a bluescreen. The "Sleep" option under the start menu is grayed out. There is no option for sleep in the Power Options.

I would like to see if anyone has a fix to this issue.

Thanks,

I just found this post in a post related to the Thunderbolt ethernet adapter.

"I successfully installed the driver in Window 7 per Benjamin C's instructions. Yes the Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter does work in Windows 7 Boot Camp, however the SLEEP MODE is disabled after installing the driver. (I am using MacBookPro-Retina)

Somehow Windows complains that the firmware does not support (S3) Sleep mode.

It's unreasonable for a notebook not to be able to quickly go into sleep mode and wake up from it. Hibernate just takes too long.

Apple, please respond to this issue."

I am currently using the Thunderbolt adapter and I am curious if that is the cause. I will have to try to disable the driver that I installed for it to see if it corrects the issue. However, I need the adapter, so I am not sure exactly how to deal with this...

I have the same problem: MacBook Pro Retina, bootcamped Windows 7, no sleep option. The choices for closing the lid are: do nothing, hibernate [shudder], or shut down [arrggh]. No sleep. Double arrgggh. Someone help me out of this ****!

Here are the power options for my MBPr running Windows 7 in a Bootcamp partition. There clearly is a sleep on close lid option. And it works for me as it should.

That screen is a Windows 7 screen not a Bootcamp screen. I have the 15" Macbook Pro Retina. Windows 7 Professional. Look in the address bar in the image to see the path to the screen.

Not relevant but I have Bootcamp 4.0.

Did you download the Windows Support software when you ran Bootcamp Assistant? Did you then install the Windows Support Software from within Windows?

Our IT dept set this up. They did something wrong. It's more than the sleep option: there's no retina aspect ratio (2880 x 1800, right?) available in the Display control panel, only 1600 x 1200. Do I run Boot Camp Assistant in MacOS?

On mine there is the 2880x1800 display option plus many more display resolutions available in Windows. It appears they did not download and install the support software.

Run Bootcamp Assistant and only select the menu option to download the Windows Support software. It may take hours to download. Follow the instructions for saving the software to a USB. Then from within Windows run the software you downloaded to the USB.

Hello Guys,

the problem appears to come from Thunderbolt! If you have the Thunderbolt-To-Ethernet Adapter attached when starting, the sleep option will be disabled, because windows can't handle plug&play with thunderbolt devices!

Simpliest solution: Do not use Ethernet

Other ones: Buy a usb-ethernet adapter, live with the sleep-disaster, use OSX

Hope I could clear something up for you!

I have a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter connected all the time unless I'm traveling. There is no issue with this setup. The issue for the original poster is that the install of Windows was not correctly completed by installing the Windows drivers (Windows Support Software.

To the original poster. Do not use a USB to Ethernet adapter, You have a perfectly good gigabit Thunderbolt Ethetnet.

Any idea how large the Windows Support Software download is (I searched the web for a few minutes and couldn't find anything about its filesize)? I have a 1Gb USB drive plugged in. Used Disk Utility to format it as MS-DOS (FAT). Ran Boot Camp Assistant, chose only the Windows Support software option. Specified the USB drive as the target. The download ran for 15 mins or so, then threw an error that "The Windows support software could not be saved to the selected folder. There is not enough space available on disk." When I checked the USB drive with Disk Utility, it showed 1Gb available. II have tried this twice (started over after the first time, re-initialized the USB drive, etc.). So is the support sofware really >1Gb? Doesn't seem credible that I could have downloaded that much data in 15 mins. Any ideas?
