Q: iMessage on Mountain Lion does not send/recieve file transfers?

As the title says, iMessage on my MacBook Pro Retina with Mountain Lion will not accept file transfers nor will it send files. I currently have the same iMessage accounts set up on my iPhone and Mac so what's been happening is I'm talking to someone on the computer's iMessage and the whole conversation syncs back and forth with my iPhone, however when someone sends me a file, only the phone recieves it and NOT the computer.

What I've done to fix this so far:

-reinstall mountain lion, didn't fix it

-reinstall iOS on my iPhone, didnt fix it

-add and remove all iMessage accounts on both devices, didn't fix it

What do you guys recommend I do?

MacBook (13-inch Late 2006), OS X Mountain Lion

    Yep

Nothing about Messages (Confirmed by checking Messages  > About Messages where the Build and Version number are the same before and after)

They seem to note in the description

Resolve an issue that could prevent iMessages from being sent

what if the problem of this was not inside the actuall iMessages app?

    Hi Paul-Sweden,

    Thanks.

I read that when I downloaded from the download page (rather than App Store) and did not spot that line

I scanned it again quickly when you posted and still didn't spot it.

However Messages  in the About Messages items it still reporting itself as version 7.0

It would appear that there has been a change to (Hard Drive)/System/Library/Frameworks/Message.framework

Well. 10.8.1 and sending images still messes up for me. Sigh.

How's it going for the rest of you guys?

Lots of this in the console for me:

25/8/12 5:58:03.863 PM com.apple.imtransferservices.IMTransferAgent[14370]: [Warning] FTMessageDelivery failed! Error (APSErrorDomain:1): Unable to send outgoing message to apsd: (ipc/send) invalid destination port (null)

Same for me. Still not working. Hopefully they'll fix in 10.8.2...

    HI,

The Notice said "The sending of some iMessages"

Realistically this is not Sending files or Pics.

(the update is not directly to the app but to a support Framework)

At this stage I would use the Finder as the Front app > Go Menu > Hold ALT key > Select Library and open the Preferences

Find and drag to Trash com.apple.imessage.bag.plist

This holds the server name that the iMessages side is passing massages and files to and the Size they should be for some servers (such as AT&T)

Restarting Messages will recreate the .plist using defaults held in the App.

Thanks for the suggestion but that doesn't work for me. Will have to wait til 10.8.2 and cross fingers...

I disabled the account in the preferences of Messages under the Accounts tab. I did this because I was not able to send any picture. However, now I am not able to sign back in to my iMessage account..

I have tried to delete the com.apple.imessage.bag.plist file. I have also looked into tyler130's suggestion about killing those two processes, but I did not have those processes running on my computer. I have tried rebooting also. Nothing works.

At this point I'd prefer the Beta version in Lion still...

    Any ideas?

maybe there is a way to create a script that will kill the activity every time you close the "Messages" app

Open a file called "kill-messages-processes.sh" or whatever xD

    paste following

    ------------ FROM HERE --------

    while true

    do

    if ps ax|grep -v grep|grep Messages.app > /dev/null

    then

    killall -9 IMTransferAgent

    killall -9 IMRemoteURLConnectionAgent

    break

    fi

    done

    ------------ TO HERE -----------

close it, be sure it has executable permissions.

The script will self-end after killing the daemons once. I'm pretty sure that allowing it to run eternally do:

    1.- consume resources

2.- could prevent Notification Center to show new messages

Delete ALL the plists I named, reboot, then try to login on Messages again. This happened me once.

That's what the break line does, stops the script as soon as the daemons are killed once

I found that killing IMTransferAgent while I had active 'failing' transfers i.e. Messages running, caused Messages to successfully download the pictures. I agree that it seems to be when you receive pictures while your computer is asleep or not in use and the phone receives them.
