Mail chocks on eps attachments (Mountain Lion)

I dropped a couple eps files on a new message and the message became uneditable (the window controls turned gray). I have to close the window (it responds to click on the x button, even though it is grayed out), and open it from the drafts folder. This looks like a bug and I was wondering if anyone else sees it.
