is there a way to have auto reply text while driving?

I have scoured the internet for over an hour now, as well as the Apple app store, to no avail. Seriously, it's a sad day that we're in 2012 that there isn't an auto reply app or a feature the comes standard on the iphone that will automatically reply when a text message is received while driving. ***!!! please correct me if im wrong. (and i really hope i am).

Every single app that was mentioned on the internet is not available in the app store. nor was there any setting to have auto-reply setup. my state just outlawed texting while driving. wonderful. so tell me why the iphone, supposedly the best phone money can buy, does not have an app for safety purposes???!!! i'm floored by this!!!! IF I'M DRIVING, I WANT A SETTING OR APP TO TURN ON THAT WILL REPLY TO ANY TEXT MESSAGES I RECEIVE WITH A TEXT MESSAGE BACK TELLING THE PERSON I'M DRIVING/BUSY/WHATEVER

this has me considering an Android next time i re-up my phone........

iPhone 4, iOS 5.1.1

I would suggest you take a look at DriveSafe.ly. I'm pretty sure that this does what you want. I am a recent Apple convert (I used to be on BlackBerry), and I used drivesafe.ly over there. I haven't installed it yet, but it had an auto-reply mode that sensed when you were driving and activated itself. It would also read your texts and emails back to you without Siri. Here's the list of features:

  • Reads your text messages and emails out loud in real time
  • Hands Free - No need to touch the phone while driving
  • One-touch activation - no complicated setup
  • Bluetooth and radio transmitter compatible
  • Reads text message shorthand (lol, brb)
  • Optional customizable auto-responder

i appreciate your input. i immediately went to the app store and checked out drivesafe.ly as u suggested. if u haven't done so, u may want to. warning, ur going to be disappointed, as i was. the app has a disclaimer at the beginning of the description that explains how even tho it's now available for iphone, it is not compatible to do the SMS text message replies on i0S. it's got a whole bunch of stipulations on ways it will work with iphone and ways it won't. almost every review is horrific! and that's for the things it's supposed to work with on iphone, like the email part.

unfortunately, this won't work for me. i was hoping it would. thanx again.

w.o.w.

I think this is the first time that I have ever heard of an app for Blackberry having an advantage over an app for iPhone.

But I understand it.

It's a limitation that iOS places on its app developers. They cannot access the portion of the phone that handles SMS messages. In its zeal to make the best overall user experience, Apple limits what third-party apps can do so as to avoid future issues. However, the release cycle is too slow right now to account for the BIG push being made by government at all levels to find a technological solution to the problem of teen texting and driving. In this scenario, Apple will not allow 3rd party apps to access SMS, and Apple can't get an update to iOS out the door soon enough to avoid being seen as a company that aids and abets driving texters. The carriers can't even release apps for SMS blockage during driving because they are under the same restrictions as app developers.

Apple has really painted themselves into a corner. They have removed the ability of the third parties to make the needed apps, and they can't add a feature to iOS in a reasonable period of time. I suspect we won't see this feature in iOS until at least version 8. Version 7 is probably already locked down, unless it was already planned for version 7.

Jailbreaking can void your warranty and can damage your phone, for which you would be liable.
