HP Deskjet 3070a + Mountain Lion - HELP!

Hi all,

Just upgraded to Mountain Lion.
Trying to reinstall my HP printer.

Didn't have a great experience with the scanner on Snow Leopard but the printer worked ok - eventually.

Now it just ain't working again.

Scanner - failed to open a session on the device

Printer - preferences show its added )I used HP Deskjet etc instead of AirPrint. Not able to connect to print a test page.

Wireless - can't enter the IP address in safari and link with the printer.

I have updated all software from mac and hp.

Help - this is very frustrating.

Since your Printer shows as added, you can use the following instructions for Scanning, and Printing, by going to System Preferences, then select "Print & Scan", and follow these directions from HP's website:

How do I scan with the driver from Apple Software Update?

Depending on your printer and the type of driver update, you might need to scan in a different way than you did before you installed Mountain Lion.

Scan from the Print & Scan window:

  1. Place the item that you want to scan on the scanner glass, or load it into the automatic document feeder (ADF) if your printer has one.
  2. Click the Apple menu (User uploaded file ), and then click System Preferences .
  3. Click Print & Scan (User uploaded file ).
  4. Click your printer in the left pane.
  5. Click the Scan tab, and then click Open Scanner .
  6. Click Show Details . The details of the scan display, including options to change scan settings.

  7. Change any settings as necessary, and then click Scan .

NOTE:Make sure to select either the Flatbed mode or the Document Feeder mode, depending on your printer and how you plan to scan.

Hope this helps 🙂

Hi Redarm,

I did a clean reinstall of Mountain Lion so set up everything again with new drivers etc and attached to a USB. Airplay didnt work so the next time I selected DeskJet HP .....

I've deleted and readded a number of times since

Hi Radiation Mac

Yep, I spotted that on the HP website. It doesnt work. I used to use 'Yep' as my scanner software too but that doesnt work either. '\cant set up session' etc.

Any ideas. Beside breaking my printer and buying a new one.

What does "attached to a USB" mean? If you've set up/added the printer while it was attached with a USB cable, you won't be able to print to it wirelessly. You will have to set it up without cable.

If you click the plus sign in System Preferences > Print & Scan, a window should open with the "Default" tab open. Wait a minute or so and the wireless printer should appear there (not connected with a USB cable).

Edit: as long as it's connected to the network.

Edit again: my wireless printer (Canon IP4000R) is connected via WPA and constantly gets thrown off the network. To print (for it to show in the 'add window' and the printer utility app) I usually have to unplug it from the main for a minute and then plug it back in. After that it usually appears.

Lots of thoughts, but nothing really fitting here.

Over the years I had lots of problems with upgrades to the OS and my wireless Canon Pixma. Once I ended up making the printer re-join the network, but it always came back in the end. Only now I have to unplug and re-plug it every time I want to print, because it's not liked by the router for longer than a day.

That's all I can think of, start fresh, remove the printer from the network and set it back up (not just switch off and back on).

What does your network look like? Router make and model, do you extend the network, security (WEP or WPA?), what connects to what?

Can you print with everything else (iPad, iPhone)?
