imovie will not open

I haven't used iMovie for a couple of months. When I attempted to open it today I was unable to open it. I get this messge:

The previous attempt to open this movie failed. Do you want to ignore it?

/Users/Susan/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Masters/2010/May 1, 2010/VID00011.AVI

Whether I click yes or no - it begins to optimize the videos as if it were opening and then it quits unexpectedly before it fully opens.

There is an extensive report that begins with:

iMovie Quit unexpectedly.

I did some more digging and found a reply that seems to have worked!

I had this issue as well & had a hard time finding the answer, but I found it! Here...

This is what it tells you to do. Fast. Easy. Thank you!

In the Finder:

  1. Open the Go menu from the menu bar.
  2. Select Computer.
  3. In the Finder window that appears, open your hard drive. It is most likely named “Macintosh HD.”
  4. Open the Library folder.
  5. Open the QuickTime folder.
  6. Move the “3ivxVideoCodec.component” file to the Trash. You'll be asked for your administrator password.
  7. Empty the Trash.

iMovie will now open properly.
