Aug 26, 2012 5:53 AM in response to Fred7939by lushmum,If the apple ID has to be an email address, then why/how is MY email address being used by someone else???
I have just tried to change my account details, and when I put in my email address, it tells me that that id is already in use (but not by me)!

Aug 26, 2012 5:56 AM in response to lushmumby Dah•veed,The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
Do you already have another Apple ID? Is this email addressed used as an address in the other Apple ID account?

Aug 26, 2012 6:19 AM in response to Dah•veedby lushmum,as far as I know, no.
My apple id is email 1, my apple rescue email is email 2. I want my primary email/apple id as my rescue email. So I changed the rescue email to email 3.
Then I logged back in and tried to change my primary email/apple id to email 2 (which is no longer my rescue email) but was told that this email id was already in use.
I have never used email 2 as an apple id in the past, and therefore don't have a password for it.
The reason I wanted to change from my original email, is because I am moving everything from blueyonder to hotmail.

Aug 26, 2012 6:24 AM in response to lushmumby Dah•veed,And therein lies your problem, somewhere in all of that juggling around of email addresses. Nothing here in the ASC is ever as straight forward as folks post that it is in their first comment!

Aug 26, 2012 6:29 AM in response to Dah•veedby lushmum,So, will I ever be able to use the 'old' rescue email as my primary email/apple id???
For the moment I have put a forwarding thing on my blueyonder email (through webmail) to forward to my hotmail account.
Why do these programmers make things so complicated? lol
This is all because both my kids have ipod touches, and I now have an ipad. Thinking i was keeping them (and my money) safe, I won't allow them to have apple id's (as they are kids) so they have to do everything through me, but now i am getting my daughters' friends messages on my ipad as well as on her ipod touch grrrr.
Have sorted her out with her own email address (and my son too) but as far as apps and downloads are concerned I still have them going through me. Giving them their own apple id's would be like opening my purse and saying "take what you want" lol

Aug 26, 2012 7:15 AM in response to lushmumby Dah•veed,Not having children, I am not an expert in this, but there is a way with iTunes to set up allowances in children's Apple ID accounts. That way you are ultimately in control of the purse strings, but they have some choices and learn to manage sums of money and wants vs needs at the same time.

I can't help you unravel the email situation.
