Xcode freezes. what to do?

I am a new Mac user. I just started using Xcode for developing in C++.

Whenever I run a c++ program and when it happens to be an infinite Loop. It freezes, then I stop it; the program. but it appears that it is loading. and it takes a very long time to shut the program down or stop executing the code.

Whenever the program freezes in Windows I press control >> alt >> delete and then the task manager pops up and allows me to end the program.

How do I do this in a Mac? How do I shut down Xcode after it freezes?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Click on Xcode in the Dock, hold the mouse button down, and choose Force Quit to force quit Xcode. If that doesn't work choose Apple > Force Quit. The Apple menu is in the upper left corner of the screen. A list of running apps will appear. Select Xcode from the list and press the Force Quit button.
