Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
All of a sudden, Safari has decided it doesn't want to connect to google or Facebook or some random other pages.
I can connect to some pages but not others.
My bittorrent client works. I can ping apple and google, my iPhone can connect perfectly fine to any webpage while connected to my wifi network.
But some pages are refusing connections on my Mac Pro.
What happens when you try to load those pages?
I get a "Server denies connections".....it seems totally random with the biggest ones being Google and Facebook, even 'Down for every one or just me?' won't work.
I've tried turning off all my extensions, deleting my preferences.plist, flushing my dnscache & so far nothing has gotten the problem fixed.
It just started yesterday and I've been running ML since it was released at the end of July.
I know it's something specific to my Mac Pro because both my iPhone and my wife's PC work just fine on my home network.
I've been using OpenDNS with DNScrypt since Lion. The client states it's active.
However, when I turn off OpenDNS my whole connection totally dies.
Could it be something with my ISP's dns server?
I'm thinking at this point of either doing a clean install of ML or roll back to Lion.
This is so frustrating, I've never experienced this behavior on my macs before.
Remove any custom DNS settings in the Network preference pane, then renew your DHCP lease. You should get the default DNS server(s) assigned by your router. Any difference?
I just did that, and unless I need to do something else after renewing my DHCP lease, nothing has changed.
Still the same "server denies connections" crap.
Also, I can succesfully ping the sites that won't connect using the Network Utility.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window:
curl -I http://www.apple.comPress return. You should almost instantly get several lines of output below what you entered, the first of which begins with something like this:
HTTP/1.1
If there's no output within ten seconds, consider that a failure. You can then quit Terminal. Post your results.

Odd, I don't ever remember my terminal prompt starting with "localhost"
Try the command again with other sites you're having trouble with; e.g., www.google.com in place of www.apple.com. Do you get an immediate response from all of them?

Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with networks that require any kind of authentication other than a WPA or WPA2 Personal password.
From the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. Test. After testing, reboot as usual and post the results.
I'm pretty sure I don't have any proxies running.
I'm at work right now but I'll try uninstalling Little Snitch when I get home later.
I found a suggestion to do that reference the curl (7) error.
My expectations are pretty low that will work though.
I'll try that Recovery Mode boot test also later.
